Celebrating 50 Years of Outdoor Education
2025 marked the 50th anniversary of the Maroon Outdoor Education Centre (MOEC).
The centre was first established in 1975 on the site of the abandoned Maroon Dam workers’ camp. While little remains of the old camp layout today, MOEC has flourished into a vibrant learning hub, welcoming Department of Education students from across Queensland each week of the year.
From Humble Beginnings to a National Leader
Over the past five decades, MOEC has grown into one of Australia’s flagship outdoor education centres. With the capacity to host up to nine school groups each week, our programs combine field and residential experiences that challenge students to:
Work together to achieve common goals
Build cooperation and teamwork skills
Develop resilience and confidence in the outdoors
Our 50th Anniversary Open Day
On Saturday 9th August 2025, we celebrated this milestone with a community Open Day.
It was a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with friends, share stories, and showcase what makes MOEC such a unique place of learning in the Scenic Rim. Visitors enjoyed canoeing, rock climbing, high ropes challenges, and exploring the history of the centre from its earliest days.
Thank You
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for this special celebration. Your support has been an important part of our journey.
Here’s to the next 50 years of outdoor education adventures at Maroon Outdoor Education Centre!
